Youth held with 18 gold bars in Satkhira

Police detained a youth along with 18 gold bars weighing 2.1 kilograms and worth Tk 1.65 crore in Satkhira sadar upazila on Monday.

The arrestee is Mithu Sardar, son of Md Showkat Ali, of the Thanaghat area of the town.

Acting on a tip-off that a big consignment of gold is being smuggled to India, a team of police conducted the drive near Bakal Bridge at around 1:30 am and nabbed Mithu along with his bike, said Abu Jihad Md Fakhrul Alam Khan, officer-in-charge of Satkhira Sadar Police Station.

Later, 18 gold bars were recovered from his bike, he said.
