Today (Wednesday) is the 51st anniversary of the national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines started its journey on January 4, 1972, with only one aircraft.
Then the name of the company was Aero Bangla International. Later, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman named Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
It operates in 20 besides seven domestic routes.
Shafiul Azim, managing director and CEO of Biman Bangladesh said the company has made Tk 436 crore net profit in the last year.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has taken several initiatives to make Biman a standard airline after assuming the state power in 2009.
Currently, the national flag carrier has 21 aircrafts with modern technology.
Biman operates fights various destinations including London, Manchester, Toronto, Riyadh and Jeddah.
The Biman managing director said the national flag carrier is now performing very well compared to any other time.
Shafiul Azim also said Biman Bangladesh airlines is working and implementing various initiatives to ensure the health services and security of the passengers.
The Biman chief said that he had taken a plan to first bring Biman into the top ten Asian airlines within 2030.
