Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday alerted the people about anti-state conspiracies being hatched by local and foreign conspirators and urged the countrymen to help her government overcome the current global crisis steamed from the Covid-19 pandemic and Russia-Ukraine war, reports BSS, UNB.
“Crisis will come. Getting afraid of a crisis is not right. We have successfully faced the coronavirus pandemic with the help of the people. InshaAllah, we will also overcome the global recession. We are seeking cooperation from you for that.”
Sheikh Hasina made the call in an address to the nation through Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar at 7:30 pm on the eve of Victory Day which will be celebrated on Friday (16 December).
She said, “On this Victory Day, being energized by the spirit of the Liberation War, let’s take a vow collectively that we will take the development journey of Bangladesh forward by breaking the web of all conspiracies.”
In her 23 minutes, speech Hasina said, “The vultures of 1971 and hyenas of 1975” are still active in the country and out to get the scope to destroy the country with their teeth and claws. They get tormented with fire burns if the people of the country remain well. Local and foreign conspirators are becoming active. But the country has identified them and no conspiracy can mislead them.”
The BNP-Jamaat clique has hired lobbyists expending the illegally earned money to harm the country, she alleged.
The Premier said, “See their history. A part of them not only opposed the independence of Bangladesh, but they also killed people, being collaborators of the Pakistani occupation forces. After independence, Bangabandhu banned their politics and brought war criminals to justice.”
But BNP founder Ziaur Rahman rehabilitated them in politics after seizing the power illegally following the assassination of the Father of the Nation with his family on 15th August 1975.
“Being rehabilitated, they again started the politics of killing and terrorism,” she added.
The Prime Minister said the BNP's top leader is convicted in an orphanage money embezzlement case and another top leader is a fugitive and convicted in money laundering, 10-truck arms smuggling and the August 21 grenade attack cases.
“Why would the general people go to vote for them?” she said.
“Losing faith in the people of the country, BNP-Jamaat has now hired some mercenaries to malign the country to foreigners. They are using smuggled money and defaming the country,” she said.
She recalled the BNP-Jamaat mayhem from 2013 to 2015 in the name of a movement to oust her government in which 500 people were killed and 3,180 were injured in petrol bomb attacks.
Describing the government of Bangladesh Awami League as a people's government, Hasina said her government’s main aim is to work for the welfare of the people and they never want people to suffer.
“We never want the sufferings of the people. The prices of essential goods have started increasing due to global reasons which are now starting to be normal. The price inflation is declining. I want to assure you that we will revise the price of any goods, including fuel if it starts declining in the global market,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina said panic is being created by spreading rumours that there is no money in the banks.
“Don't pay heed to rumours unnecessarily. There is no shortage of money in banks. Don't invite danger by keeping your hard-earned money at home. Everything of us --investment, remittance inflow and import-export situation-- remains normal,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina extended her sincere greetings to all the citizens of Bangladesh living at home and abroad on the occasion of Victory Day 2022.
