After the monsoon, autumn, late autumn and the winter going, Aedes mosquitoes are still dominant in the capital, due to which hundreds of people are suffering from dengue disease every day.
The situation is not improving even though the responsible agencies are conducting regular activities to control the deadly mosquitoes. However, entomologists said that the spread of Aedes mosquito is increasing due to weather and climate change.
Those concerned said, this year has broken all records of dengue deaths and created new records. In 2019, dengue took a terrible form, killing 164 people. This year, the death toll has already reached 267.
According to analysts, Dhaka's mosquito control program is not being conducted scientifically. Due to this, the desired success is not met.
Professor Dr. Kabirul Bashar, Zoology Department of Jahangirnagar University Medical Entomology told Bangladesh Pratidin, “Due to weather and climate, mosquitoes are breeding in Bangladesh. There is still 25-30 degree temperature in the country. Apart from this, even if there is no rain water, there is water in various small and big containers. Water is available at various places in the basement parking of large buildings. We are also seeing the spread of Aedes mosquitoes there.”
“Two city corporations are working to control mosquitoes. But this work should be done with more sincerity throughout the year. In addition, all types of integrated mosquito control tools will be used. And people should always be aware of winter and monsoon. Then it will be possible to control the dengue outbreak to a large extent.,” he added.
Recently, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said, We are seeing a variety of changes due to climate change. Looking at changes in the evolution of insects or Aedes mosquitoes and looking at time changes.
This time the Aedes mosquito outbreak is still going on beyond October. There was not supposed to be an outbreak of Aedes mosquitoes until now. Now we are into the dry season. But still we are seeing the spread of the Aedes mosquito. As a result, we have to continue our work to control mosquitoes, he said.
Taposh said that experts and researchers need more effective research on the reasons behind the spread of Aedes and Culex mosquitoes before the season and such research will be supported.
Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Atiqul Islam said, Not just Culex mosquitoes. The Aedes mosquito is still there. Our anti-mosquito activities and operations are ongoing.
