Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained a youth along with 18 gold bars weighing 2kg near the Chowgacha border of Jashore on Wednesday.
The arrestee is Md Nazmul Hossain, 22, son of Md Shariful Alam Babu, hailing from Jhinaikundu village of Chowgacha under the district.
Following a directive of 49-BGB commanding officer Lt Col Shahed Minhaj Siddiqui, a team of the force conducted a raid at the Tilakpur village area 500 yards off the main pillar 40 under Chowgacha upazila.
The raid came following an intelligence report that a person carrying smuggled gold bars was about to cross the border.
As the smuggler was going along the street on a motorcycle, forces intercepted him resulting in the arrest and recovery of gold.
The estimated value of the 12 gold bars is Tk 20,000,000.
