Dhaka city north BNP convener Amanullah Aman was detained from the party’s Naya Paltan central office on Wednesday evening.
Earlier in the afternoon, police detained BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, BNP’s publicity secretary and media cell member Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas and Swecchasebak Dal general secretary Juel from the same spot.
They were detained by law enforcement agencies during the clash between BNP activists and the police.
A man was killed and 18 others were injured during the clash between the police and BNP leaders and activists at the Naya Paltan area in the capital in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir reached the party’s Nayapaltan office after hearing the news of the clash.

Eyewitnesses said when BNP leaders and activists took a position in front of the party office around 3 pm and started chanting slogans police asked them to leave the place.
At one stage of the altercation, police lobbed tear gas shells and charged batons to disperse them.
