Saudi Arabia has awarded Teledyne FLIR Defense, a division of Teledyne Technologies, a $7.8 million contract to provide its cutting-edge Lightweight Vehicle Surveillance Systems (LVSS) to a key military entity. The contract, signed with Middle East Task Company (METCO), includes the delivery of mobile surveillance systems equipped with advanced radar and thermal imaging technology, according to a statement issued by Teledyne FLIR Defense.
The LVSS system features FLIR’s TacFLIR 380HD long-range thermal camera and Ranger R20SS radar, capable of tracking up to 500 targets at distances greater than 10 miles (16 km). This advanced technology allows for highly effective protection of military bases, critical infrastructure, and personnel from both air and ground-based threats. The system is designed for rapid deployment and can be set up by a single operator in less than 30 seconds.
Stan Crawford, Senior Director of Business Development for Teledyne FLIR Defense in the Middle East, expressed the company's pride in supporting Saudi Arabia’s military efforts. "The LVSS platform combines decades of FLIR technology, helping secure borders, key installations, and shorelines from threats at any time of day or night," said Crawford.
The systems, which are expected to be delivered by the end of 2025, will play a vital role in enhancing Saudi Arabia's defense capabilities. METCO and Teledyne FLIR Defense are working closely with the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI) on a localization plan for the project.
