Gold prices in the country have reached a new record, with 22-carat gold rising by Tk1,773 to Tk1,57,872 per bhori (11.664 grams), the highest ever in the country ahead of Eid.
The Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) made the decision at a meeting on Friday, citing the price hike of pure gold in the local market.
Earlier on 25 March, gold prices hit a record high of Tk1,56,099 per bhori.
As per the new rate, the price of 22-carat gold will now be Tk13,535 per gram, and 21-carat Tk12,920 per gram.
The price of 18-carat gold has been fixed at Tk11,074 a gram while that of traditional gold at Tk9,134 per gram.
New prices will come into effect on Saturday, according to a press release signed by Masudur Rahman, chairman of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring.
However, prices of silver remained unchanged. The price of 22-carat silver is Tk221 per gram, 21-carat is Tk210, 18-carat is Tk181, and traditional silver is Tk136 per gram.
According to Bajus's figures, gold prices have risen by nearly 37% in the past year alone, and over the last three years, the price of gold has increased by more than 95%. If the global price of gold continues to rise, further increases in the domestic price are expected, the association warned.
