The first solar eclipse of 2025 will take place on Saturday. It will be a partial eclipse, visible in specific areas around the world.
According to NASA, this eclipse will be visible in parts of Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America, and the Arctic region. However, it will not be visible from Bangladesh and India. The shadow of the moon will not fall over Bangladesh, so it will not be visible.
In Bangladesh's local time, the eclipse will begin at 2:50 PM and end at 6:43 PM. The maximum eclipse will occur at 4:47 PM.
Although it will not be visible to people in Bangladesh, the eclipse can be seen in cities like New York, Boston, Montreal, Quebec, and parts of Africa, Siberia, the Caribbean islands, and some regions of Europe.
There will be two solar eclipses this year – one on March 29 and the other on September 21.
What is a solar eclipse?
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon, the sun, and the Earth align in a straight line, and the moon's shadow blocks the sunlight from reaching the Earth. From the area where the shadow falls, the sun is either completely blocked or appears mostly dark.
It can be dangerous to view a solar eclipse with the naked eye, as it can cause permanent damage to the eyes.
Special protective glasses (ISO 12312-2 compliant) should be used to view the eclipse. Regular sunglasses or smoke-tinted glasses are not safe at all.
