Bollywood’s iconic superhero franchise takes a new turn as Hrithik Roshan makes his directorial debut with 'Krrish 4.'
The megastar will both direct and star in the highly anticipated sequel, continuing his lead role in the series.
Leading Indian studio Yash Raj Films, led by Aditya Chopra, will produce the tentpole in association with franchise creator Rakesh Roshan, marking a significant new chapter for India’s homegrown superhero saga, reports Variety.
The "Krrish" franchise, led by Hrithik Roshan, is Bollywood’s iconic superhero saga, blending sci-fi spectacle with Indian emotion. Starting with "Koi... Mil Gaya" in 2003, the series gained momentum with "Krrish" (2006) and "Krrish 3" (2013), establishing Roshan’s character as India’s answer to Superman.
Directed by Rakesh Roshan and produced by FilmKraft, the films combine stunning VFX with mythological storytelling and melodrama.
“I’m passing the baton of the director of ‘Krrish 4’ to my son, Hrithik Roshan, who has lived, breathed and dreamt about this franchise since its inception with me,” said Rakesh Roshan. “Hrithik has a clear and a very ambitious vision of taking ‘Krrish’s journey forward with the audience for the next decades. I couldn’t be more prouder to see him wear the director’s hat for a film that means the world to us as a family.”
The family has been in the public eye in India recently thanks to hit Netflix documentary series “The Roshans.”
The elder Roshan, who helmed the previous three films, said. “It brings me so much joy to see someone like Adi as the producer of ‘Krrish 4.’ It was he who convinced Hrithik to sit in the director’s chair,” he revealed. “Adi and Yash Raj Films have the knowledge, understanding and technological might to produce this film and add great value to this project.”
The high-profile collaboration unites two of Bollywood’s most influential filmmaking families. “Hrithik and Adi coming together as a producer-director pair with me behind them is a rare and deliciously creative combination,” Rakesh Roshan continued. “I’m sure they will turn ‘Krrish 4’ into a theatrical experience that has never been made in India. The dream is to make India proud globally with a larger than life experience like ‘Krrish 4.'”
Production is slated to begin in early 2026, though no release timeline has been confirmed.
