With the Eid holidays beginning, people have started leaving Dhaka for their destinations, leading to increased traffic at the Padma Bridge toll plaza in Munshiganj’s Louhajang Upazila.
In the past 24 hours, 39,637 vehicles crossed the bridge, generating a toll revenue of Tk 4,25,41,300.
Padma Bridge's executive engineer, Abu Saeed, confirmed the information to the media on Saturday. According to sources, 26,056 vehicles crossed the bridge via the Mawa end, contributing Tk 2.37 crore in tolls. Meanwhile, 13,580 vehicles used the Jazira point, bringing in Tk 1.88 crore.
Previously, the highest single-day toll collection on the bridge was Tk 4.89 crore on April 9, 2023. On June 14 that year, Tk 4.8 crore was collected, followed by Tk 4.29 crore on June 15. The highest toll revenue recorded in 2023 was Tk 4.6 crore.
According to the bridge authorities, the toll revenue collected in the last 24 hours is the fifth highest since the Padma Bridge was inaugurated.
