Cohorts of ousted fascist creating chaos in country: Jamaat Ameer

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has alleged that the cohorts of the ousted autocratic government are conspiring to obstruct the holding of an inclusive election in the country.

“Even though the fascist dictator has fled the country, they continue to create chaos here in various ways, through their cohorts living abroad and hiding in the country,” he said.

The Jamaat Ameer made the remarks in a greeting message to the nation on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday.

“There are various conspiracies being hatched to create controversy and chaos in the country to prevent a free, fair, impartial, and participatory election. The government must put an end to this situation and create an environment conducive to free, fair, and impartial polls,” he added.

At the same time, Shafiqur Rahman further said the countrymen must unite and remain vigilant against all anti-national activities. “The people must continue their movement and struggle until a humane Bangladesh is formed in the changed circumstances,” he said.

In the statement, he noted that the nation is going to celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr at a time when the country has achieved freedom for the second time through the mass movement of students and the people.

“The people of the country are now able to breathe in a free atmosphere after being freed from the hands of the oppressor, who had been oppressing them like a stone for 15 and a half years. The people are now able to speak freely and move around in peace and comfort,” the Jamaat Ameer said.

He also prayed for the salvation of the departed souls of the martyrs who were killed by the ousted autocrat during the July-August mass uprising and for the recovery of the injured from the mass uprising.

In another statement, Shafiqur Rahman demanded the immediate, unconditional release of the party’s leader ATM Azharul Islam.

He said, “Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam has been in prison for more than 13 years on a false and fabricated charge filed by the then fascist government.

“After the fall of the fascist government, many leaders and activists of anti-fascist political parties were released, and the countrymen hoped that Azharul Islam, a victim of extreme oppression and torture, would also be released in the dictatorship-free Bangladesh. But even though almost eight months have passed since the interim government took power, ATM Azharul Islam has not been released yet. This has shocked and surprised the countrymen.”

He urged the interim government to release ATM Azharul Islam before the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr so that he can celebrate the holy Eid with his family in a free atmosphere.
