The Kurdistan Oil and Gas Producers Association (APIKUR) has raised objections to the actions of the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, accusing it of undermining ongoing negotiations and trying to alter the terms of legal contracts between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and international oil companies (IOCs).
Despite ongoing talks with the Government of Iraq (GOI), including direct discussions with Prime Minister Sudani's office, In a statement, APIKUR claims that the Ministry of Oil is refusing to negotiate in good faith. The association argues that the Ministry is attempting to unilaterally change the economic framework that governs the oil export agreements between the KRG and IOCs.
APIKUR’s statement emphasized that these actions are unacceptable and that its member companies will not resume oil exports until the GOI commits to honoring the contracts, including ensuring payment guarantees for both past and future exports.
The primary goal of APIKUR is to promote the Kurdistan Region as a prime destination for international oil and gas investments while advocating for the interests of its members. The association also serves as a platform for sharing industry information and best practices among stakeholders in the region and beyond.
