US special envoy for the Middle East Amos Hochstein has arrived in the Lebanese capital amid ceasefire hopes, reports Al Jazeera.
A Lebanese government source told the Qatar based media outlet that the level of American optimism about reaching a ceasefire is the highest in a year.
Lebanon is expected to respond positively to the US’s latest ceasefire proposal, though Israeli PM Netanyahu has downplayed the prospects of ending his country’s offensive there.
Israeli officials have consistently demanded publicly that Israel retain the right to operate freely in Lebanon should it deem the terms of the ceasefire to have been violated.
