Amid the concerns over supplies, two more vessels carrying 51,000 tonnes of octane and furnace oil arrived at Chattogram Port on Wednesday.
Of the vessels, Marshall Islands-flagged “MT Central Star” is carrying 26,000 tonnes of octane from Malaysia.
Besides, another tanker “MT Eastern Quince” is carrying 25,000 tonnes of furnace oil.
Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim informed that the vessels anchored at the Bravo and Charlie anchorages of the port on Wednesday.
Five more vessels carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) are scheduled to arrive in the country by 15 April, he said.
Mentionable, after the joint attack by the United States and Israel on Iran on 28 February, conflict spread across the Middle East. It disrupted shipping though the Strait of Hormuz, affecting the fuel imports of various countries, including Bangladesh.
Consequently, several energy-laden ships could not reach the country on time, creating pressure on supply. In this situation, the government has taken initiative to procure fuel from alternative sources.
According to the sources in the CPA, around 45 vessels have reached the country with LNG, Monoethylene Glycol (MEG), High Sulfur Fuel Oil (HSFO), crude oil, gas oil, LPG, LNG and base oil since the war started on 28 February.
