In a significant milestone for Mongla Port, four foreign commercial ships have docked at the port’s jetty simultaneously.
According to a media release, the vessels anchored at different jetties on Monday afternoon.
The Panama-flagged MV Jupiter berthed at Jetty No. 5, carrying 4,083 metric tonnes of machinery goods, while the South Korea-flagged MV Marigold docked at Jetty No. 6 with 5,000 metric tonnes of molasses. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong-flagged MV Han Hui took position at Jetty No. 7, loaded with 1,970.41 metric tonnes of steel pipes, and the Barbados-flagged MV Anka Blue anchored at Jetty No. 8, carrying 1,769.07 metric tonnes of machinery cargo.
In total, these four vessels are carrying 12,822.48 metric tonnes of goods.
Beyond these four ships, Mongla Port is currently handling cargo from 14 other commercial vessels at various locations.
This includes two ships at Port Grind, five at Harbaria, and two at the gas company’s designated points.
These vessels are unloading a range of goods, including machinery, molasses, steel pipes, rice, coal, clinker and fertiliser.
Deputy Director Makruzzaman noted that dredging at the Outer Bar in the Bay of Bengal estuary has been completed, while dredging at the Inner Bar is ongoing.
The increased channel depth now allows foreign vessels to dock directly at the port’s jetty, enhancing operational efficiency.
He added that the simultaneous berthing of four cargo-laden ships at the jetty is a direct benefit of the ongoing port channel dredging efforts, reinforcing Mongla Port’s growing capacity in handling international trade.
