The Economic Census will start nationwide on December 10 and continue for 15 days until December 26. The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) will be responsible for collecting the key data for the "Economic Census 2024." This census is conducted every 10 years to gather information on the country's economic conditions.
Currently, other arrangements such as publicity have also been finalized. During the 2024 census, 95,000 data collectors will gather information from 12.2 million units.
The information was shared at the inauguration of the training program for the Economic Census project, held on Wednesday at the BBS conference hall in Agargaon, Dhaka. During the event, Mizanur Rahman, the Director General (Additional Secretary) of BBS, provided detailed information about the publicity and preparation efforts.
It was announced that the three-day training, taking place from November 27 to 29, will be attended by the Bureau of Statistics' departmental and district census coordinators, as well as monitoring officers.
The Economic Census-2024 includes 65 questions. For the first time, data for this census will be collected using the CAPI (Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing) method through tablets. A total of 12.2 million units have already been identified through listing, and detailed information will be collected from these units as well as from others.
The event revealed that, for the first time in this census, data will be collected on the number of foreign workers in the country, the types of institutions they are employed in, the roles they occupy, and the gender distribution of the workers.
