Suspended assistant commissioner and former executive magistrate of Nilphamari Deputy Commissioner’s office Begum Taposhi Tabassum Urmi on Thursday has been granted bail in a defamation case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Imran Ahmed passed the bail order after the hearing.
Earlier in the day, Taposhi Tabassum Urmi surrendered to the court and sought bail through her lawyer.
On the other hand, the plaintiff opposed the bail plea. After hearing both sides, the court passed the order.
Earlier on October 8, a member of the higher council and media coordinator of Gano Odhikar Parishad Abu Hanif filed an appeal with a Dhaka court to file a defamation case against Taposhi Tabassum UrmiUrmi accusing her of making derogatory comments about the martyrs of the July-August uprising, including Abu Sayeed.
After recording and reviewing the statement of the plaintiff, the court summoned Urmi to appear before it on November 28.
According to the case statement, Urmi wrote a Facebook post on October 5, where she made indecent comments about martyred Abu Sayeed and Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus.
