BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged for a national unity among the political parties.
“We urge the chief adviser to hold the election immediately and establish national unity by holding discussion among political parties,” Fakhrul told reporters after emerging from a meeting with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, a BNP delegation led by the party’s secretary general held a meeting with the chief adviser. The meeting began around 6 pm at the state guest house Jamuna.
Referring to the recent unlawful activities, he said, “We must build national unity through discussion among the country’s political parties to get rid of the situation. There is no alternative but to form the unity to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty.”
BNP Standing Committee Members Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed were accompanying the party secretary general.
During the meeting, BNP also discussed the country’s prevailing situation, the party’s position on reforms and the next general election, said a source of the party.
