The United States president Joe Biden has said his country over the coming days “will make another push with Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Israel, and others” for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, where nearly 14 months of Israeli attacks have killed at least 44,282 Palestinians, reports Al Jazeera.
In a post on X, Biden said the effort would aim for the release of the captives held in Gaza “and an end to the war without Hamas in power”.
The US is Israel’s staunchest ally. Its backing has been vital for funding the war on Gaza, with a recent Brown University study finding that the Biden administration spent $17.9bn on security assistance to Israel over the past year.
