Gazipur Safari Park has become a sanctuary for the critically endangered 11 capped langurs (Hanumans), a rare species recently rescued from traffickers.
On Friday, authorities received the capped langurs, which were seized during a raid in the Swami Bagh area of Dhaka. The animals had been smuggled in a white private car, which has since been impounded.
Assistant Conservator of Forests Rafiqul Islam confirmed that the rescued capped langurs, including five juveniles, are being closely monitored in a special holding area behind the park’s hospital. All of the animals are in good health.
Wildlife Inspector Nigar Sultana of the Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation-Dhaka Department stated that the animals were recovered on Thursday following a coordinated operation.
The traffickers were arrested, and the mobile court sentenced them to three months in prison, along with a Tk 20,000 fine. The rescued capped langurs were safely transferred to the safari park the following day.
