Five people were killed and at least 25 injured in separate road accidents in Rangpur.
The accidents took place on Friday morning.
The accident occurred due to darkness amid dense fog, said the concerned officials.
Three passengers of a three-wheeler were killed when a bus hit them in the Satmatha China Hall area of Rangpur city around 8:30 am. At least four others were injured. The police could not confirm the identities of the deceased. The injured have been rescued and admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Mahiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Quddus said that in the morning, a night coach on route from Dhaka to Kurigram hit a three-wheeler (three-wheeler Mahendra) going from Kurigram to Rangpur and fled. Three passengers of the three-wheeler died on the spot. Upon receiving the information, the police and fire service went to recover the bodies of the three and sent them to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue.
Rangpur Fire Service assistant director Masud Alam said that the accident mainly occurred due to the inability to see the road due to dense fog. Traffic on the road is normal.
On the other hand, a pedestrian was killed in a bus collision on the Rangpur-Badarganj road in the Najir Hat area in the morning.
Earlier, at 7:30 am on Friday, another bus hit a bus going from Satkhira to Kurigram in front of the Baradargaon Highway Police Station in Pirganj Upazila on the Rangpur-Dhaka Highway, killing Aslam Khan (46), son of Abdus Samad of Kaliganj Upazila in Satkhira. 23 people were injured.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Baradargaon Highway Police Station Md. Moniruzzaman confirmed the matter.
