To ensure the safety of students, the University of Dhaka (DU) has imposed a ban on outsiders entering the campus overnight on December 31. The university's administration issued the announcement via an emergency notification from the proctor's office on Monday.
The notice specified that, in observance of 'Thirty First Night,' campus access will be restricted from 7 pm on December 31 to 5 am on January 1, 2025. Only students with valid ID cards, university staff, vehicles displaying DU stickers, and emergency vehicles (including ambulances, doctors, patients, and journalists) will be allowed entry. The affected entrances include Shahbagh, Doel square, Burn Unit square, Shibbari Crossing, Fuller Road, Palashi roundabout, and Nillkhet.
The notification also emphasized that no events, fireworks, lanterns, or explosives will be permitted in the university’s open areas during this period.
