A fire that broke out at Building 7 of the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital’s Segunbagicha area early Thursday has been doused after six hours.
Fire service media cell inspector Anwarul Islam said the fire was extinguished at 8:05 am.
Earlier in the morning, at a press conference, Director General (DG) of the Directorate of Fire Services and Civil Defence Brigadier General Muhammad Zaheed Kamal said the cause of the fire could not be confirmed yet.
Members of the army, police, and Armed Police Battalion (APBn) were deployed to assist the firefighters, he said.
Zaheed Kamal also informed that firefighter Md Sohanur Zaman Nayon was killed as a covered van ran over him while connecting a water pipe at the pump in front of the Secretariat.
The fire broke out at Building 7 of the Secretariat in the capital at 1:52 am on Thursday.
On information, 19 firefighting units rushed to the spot to douse the fire.
