BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed deep concern, grief, and sympathy over the fire incident and casualties in a highly secured area like the Secretariat.
In a statement on Thursday, the BNP Secretary General expressed his deep concern, grief, and sympathy.
In the statement, he said, “I am deeply concerned about the devastating fire in a sensitive building like the Secretariat, which resulted in one death and injuries to 2-3 others. The massive fire at the Secretariat has caused extensive damage, including the destruction of important documents. It is not unusual for the current interim government to face embarrassment over such a fire incident.”
The BNP Secretary General demanded a proper investigation and punish those who are responsible. He also urged the authorities to provide compensation to the families of the deceased and the injured.
Incident Details:
On Wednesday night at 1:52 AM, the Fire Service received reports of a fire at the Secretariat. Initially, the fire unit stationed at the Secretariat tried to control the fire. However, as the intensity of the fire increased, 19 more units were dispatched to the scene. After nearly six hours, the fire was brought under control at 8:05 AM.
During firefighting efforts, Md. Sohanur Zaman Nayon, a firefighter, was injured after being run over by a truck while setting up a water supply line. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
It is suspected that many important files were destroyed in the fire.
