Electoral System Reform Commission head Dr Badiul Alam Majumder is quite sure that there will be no use of EVM [Electronic Voting Machine] in the upcoming elections.
“It can be said with certainty that EVMs will not be used in the next elections,” he said, adding: “EVMs are very weak device and unified thought among different political parties is important when it comes to using any device in elections.”
He made these remarks in response to a question during a press briefing after a view-sharing meeting on electoral system reform at the Rajshahi DC’s conference room on Thursday.
Country’s election system has completely collapsed, said Mr Alam, adding: “The reform commission will recommend brining those who disputed the elections in the past under punishment.”
The view-exchange meeting held from 10am t0 2pm, with the participation of stakeholders including representatives of political parties, NGOs, cultural organizations, law enforcers’, and election officers.
In response to question whether the EC can be held responsible for holding disputed elections in the past, Badiul Alam Majumder said: “Those who committed crimes by arranging elections in 2014, 2018 and 2024, those who disputed these elections and gave shelter to culprits, must be brought under justice.”
He said: “If they get away after wrongdoing, then it will be encouraged in future.”
