Sarjis Alam, coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and chief organizer of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee, claimed that the burned body of a dog found at the Secretariat fire site indicates a conspiracy. He made this statement on Thursday afternoon at the 'Thakurgaon Rising' program organized by the Jatiya Nagorik Committee in the hall room of Thakurgaon Press Club.
Regarding the fire at the Secretariat, Sarjis Alam said it was deliberately set in the rooms of two of his comrades, Asif Mahmud and Nahid Islam.
According to Sarjis, The presence of a dog’s burned body proved that it was an act of sabotage.
He further said “Bureaucrats in the Secretariat had supported ‘killer Hasina’. Before the mass uprising, some bureaucrats acted like slaves, chanting slogans in favor of Hasina in various parts of Dhaka. These officials are still employed in the Secretariat, raising security concerns. If these individuals remain in their positions, it will be impossible to ensure proper governance.”
Talking about holding elections after completing reforms, Sarjis Alam said, "If it had been stated before the mass uprising that two to three years were needed for reforms, not only political parties but even ordinary citizens would not have objected. However, prolonging the election date could further destabilize the country’s fragile situation. It has only been five months since the mass uprising. The government must be given time and opportunity to carry out standard reforms to ensure a fair election. Otherwise, 'killer Hasina' may exploit this opportunity to create instability."
Speaking about the Jatiya Nagorik Committee, he said, "It is not a political party but a political force. Everyone feel the need for something new, as Bangladesh’s leadership has been destroyed. The committee aims to serve as a platform to create capable leaders for the future who can guide the nation effectively."
