Ripon Das, an accused in the murder case of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif, has confessed to his involvement in the crime before a Chattogram court, reports The Business Standard.
The statement was recorded on Saturday evening in the chamber of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sarkar Hasan Shahriar.
This brings the total number of accused to confess in the case to three.
“Ripon Das was presented before the court after the completion of his remand period. He confessed in the judge's chamber,” said Mahfuzur Rahman, assistant commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (Kotwali zone) and the case's investigating officer.
Quoting Ripon's statement, Mahfuzur said on the day of the incident, Ripon Das was chanting slogans at the court premises, demanding the release of Chinmoy Krishna Das, the spokesperson of the Sanatani Jagoron Jote, who was under arrest in a sedition case.
