A ruinous fire broke out at the Akmal Ali Ghat area under the EPZ Police Station in Chattogram city in the early hours on 17 November, burning 36 shops and houses to ashes.
Fortunately, no injuries or deaths have been reported in the incident, reports TBS.
The fire started around 12:05am at the Akmal Ali Ghat near the Outer Ring Road.
Confirming the incident, Nazrul Islam, an operator at the Chattogram Divisional Control Room of the Fire Service, said they received reports of the blaze at around 12:10am.
"Seven firefighting units from different fire stations in the city were dispatched to the scene and managed to bring the flames under control after a six-hour hectic effort around 6:10am. The fire consumed various establishments, including residential quarters, restaurants, grocery stores, scrap shops, and storage spaces used by local fishermen for keeping their fishing nets," he added.
The fire originated from a mosquito coil in one of the residential quarters, Nazrul Islam confirmed, adding that investigations are ongoing to assess the extent of the damage and any additional contributing factors.
