Starting today, Sunday, the army will establish temporary camps in various housing areas of Mohammadpur to combat terrorism and extortion.
On Saturday night, at a press conference at the Basila army camp, Major Nazim Ahmed, the Deputy Commander of the 23 East Bengal Regiment, shared this information.
At the press conference Major Nazim urged the residents of Mohammadpur not to be afraid, stating, "provide us with information. The army will respond promptly.”
He said that since the army was granted magistracy powers, 197 individuals have been arrested. During this time, they recovered 18 firearms, 261 rounds of ammunition, 19 types of drugs, one grenade, and 80 local weapons.
Meanwhile, in connection with the alarming armed robbery at a supermarket in Basila on Friday, joint forces have arrested the main suspect, identified as Md. Aslam, also known as Rubel or Alam (32).
He noted that 27 to 28 youth gangs have been identified in Mohammadpur and till now six operations have been conducted at the Geneva Camp, leading to the recovery of a significant number of local weapons. Approximately 30 percent of all arrests made are from this camp.
Among those apprehended, about 15 to 16 are identified as leaders and godfathers involved in extortion, robbery, and various other criminal activities.
The army will continue these operations to maintain peace in the community.
