In Mohammadpur, joint forces led by the army detained 45 individuals involved in mugging, robbery, and youth gang activities.
Major Fazle Bari, the officer in charge of the Basila camp, confirmed this information.
On Saturday evening (October 26), they were apprehended from Dhaka Udyan and its surrounding areas. After initial questioning at the army’s Basila camp, they were handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station around 12:15 a.m.
Major Fazle Bari stated that incidents of mugging, robbery, and youth gang activities have recently increased in the Dhaka Udyan, Basila, and Mohammadpur areas. Based on this information, a joint operation by the police, RAB, and army led to the detention of 45 individuals.
He noted that two videos related to recent incidents of mugging and robbery in Mohammadpur have circulated around social media. Among the 45 detainees two were directly involved in the robbery, and three were linked to the mugging incidents.
Additionally, on Friday, a group of youth gangs conducted a weapons display in Dhaka Udyan, with 40 of those detained participating in that demonstration.
Major Bari further stated that all detainees have been transferred to the police station. There, they will undergo verification, and legal actions will be taken against them as appropriate.
He also emphasized that operations to combat crime will continue.
Notably, a shocking robbery recently took place at a mini supermarket in Basila.
CCTV footage from the incident shows several individuals armed with machetes, taking money from the cash counter after holding two people hostage.
Furthermore, another viral video on social media shows hundreds of teenagers conducting a large display of force in Dhaka Udyan, Mohammadpur, around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, wielding local weapons.
During this event, they threatened and intimidated anyone they came across on the streets.
