Can a machine really wash a human? The answer might just be yes, thanks to the evolved “human washing machine” unveiled at the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion on Sunday. First introduced at the 1970 Osaka Expo, the original machine automatically cleaned and dried a person’s body inside a capsule. But the new version takes things much further, offering a transformative experience that cleanses not just the body but the mind as well, according to Jiji Press, JN.
This updated machine uses sensors to detect the user’s heart rate, adjusting the experience with soothing videos and music based on their physical and emotional state. Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura, who was among the first to try the machine, remarked, “It felt good, and I was able to relax,” after experiencing the calming effects firsthand.
The human washing machine is just one part of the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion, which focuses on the future of health and technology. The pavilion, themed “REBORN,” invites visitors to explore how innovations like induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells and personalized health experiences will shape the future of well-being.
Following the preview event, an opening ceremony was held, attended by about 400 dignitaries, including key figures from the tech and healthcare industries. Yoshimura expressed his excitement, saying, “I hope this pavilion becomes a journey into the future where the world can witness Osaka’s cutting-edge technology.”
The human washing machine is set to be a highlight at the 2025 World Expo, offering an unforgettable, futuristic experience in health and wellness.
