Rishad Hossain has been replaced by Afghan left-arm wrist spinner Waqar Salamkheil in the Hobart Hurricanes squad as the leg spinner became unavailable due to his commitment with Fortune Barishal in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), reports The Daily Sun.
It was earlier reported that Rishad might get the chance to play in the BBL 14 for Hobart Hurricanes, but only for three matches.
But Hobart confirmed on Monday that they have opted to go for the Afghan wrist spinner instead of waiting for Rishad.
“The Hobart Hurricanes can now confirm that Afghan star Waqar Salamkheil will join the Purple Army after Rishad Hossain became unavailable for the duration of BBL|14 due to the Bangladesh Premier League,” a Hobart Huricanes press release stated.
BBL 14 is scheduled to run from 15 December 2024 to 27 January 2025, while the BPL takes place from 30 December 2024 to 7 February 2025.
Fortune Barishal manager Mizanur Rahman earlier said that Rishad would be allowed to play three matches in the BBL till 27 December and then join Barishal team before their opening match in BPL on 30 December.
“We have granted him NOC till 27 December. This was our decision. He can play in BBL till 27 December and then join our team before our tournament opener,” Mizanur Rahman said last week.
