Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said efforts are underway to arrest the fugitive killers of the July mass upsurge, who fled the country.
“The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) issued an arrest warrant against a few accused in the July mass-uprising killing case. We have already arrested many of them. Efforts are underway to arrest the fugitive killers who fled the country,” he said.
The adviser made the remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting River Police Headquarters in the capital’s Gulshan on Wednesday.
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said the number of the accused at the International Crimes Tribunal is 105. Of them, only 35 accused have been arrested. They (ICT) expressed anger as the rest have not been arrested so far.
“We have arrested many of them. The prime accused (Sheikh Hasina) is not staying in the country. How will we arrest her? Police can’t arrest anyone staying abroad. We are trying in this case. We have an agreement with the neighbouring country. Action is going on course,” he added.
