BNP International Affairs Committee member Ishraque Hossain said, “Today it has become urgent to reform or repair the state. The state is permanent but the government is changeable. The 31 points given by Tarique Rahman for state reform have ensured several issues. Among them, the existence or structure of the state should be made permanent, through which we can take any decision for the welfare of the people as an independent sovereign state. On the other hand, Awami League government itself has sacrificed the country's interests to stay in power.”
Ishraque said this at a 31-point public engagement workshop organized by the party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman at the Golapbagh ground in the capital on Tuesday afternoon.
Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu presided over the event.
At that time, Ishraque Hossain said, “Sheikh Hasina created the country's first constitutional crisis. In 2011, the caretaker government system was abolished from the country with a stroke of a pen. Since then, the countrymen have been deprived of their voting rights due to holding fake and dummy elections for a decade and a half. In 31 points, the caretaker government has been ensured in every national election. In addition, no one can be in power more than twice as if a person is in power more than twice, fascist and dictatorial feelings come into his mind.”
He said in 31 points, changes have been made to Article 70 of the Constitution. According to Article 70, members of the ruling party cannot vote outside the ruling party in parliament. They can also vote against it to protect national interests. The Election Commission will be reformed with a bicameral parliament. No one else can do the way the Awami League has used the EC as a party organ. EVM means a machine for stealing votes; so it will be abolished. Those who vote in this machine go to one place and then to another. I myself was a victim of this.”
