Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general professor Mia Golam Parwar on Tuesday said the peope do not want to see any election like 2014, 2018 and 2024.

“The election that the interim government is preparing for must be a free, fair and acceptable poll by reforming all relevant state organs, including the police and civil administration. The next election must be held after cleaning up the mess of the past 15 years,” he said.

At the same time, those who were involved in looting, murder, corruption and irregularities in the past decade and a half must be tried in a tribunal, Parwar added.

The Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general said this while addressing a conference of activists of the party’s Arafat Nagar unit in Harintana thana of Khulna city, said a press release.

Jamaat-e-Islami Khulna district unit secretary Munsi Mizanur Rahman, assistant secretary Professor Mia Golam Quddus, Bangladesh Sramik Kallyan Federation Khulna city unit president Azizul Islam Farazi, and Jamaat Dumuria upazila unit ameer Maulana Mokther Hossain, among others, spoke in the occasion with Jamaat-e-Islami Harintana unit ameer Abdul Gafur in the chair.

Professor Mia Golam Parwar said that the next election should be an election of national unity inspired by the spirit of August 5. Through that election, a peaceful, economically prosperous welfare state will be established, he added.

He called on everyone to get involved with Jamaat-e-Islami in building a welfare state and society as well.

He said the people of Bangladesh will never accept fascism. “We all want to move on the basis of consensus. We want elections in a democratic way, that will be fair and accountable,” he added.

He said the previous fascist government has destroyed all the rights of the people; freedom of speech, democratic rights, constitutional rights, freedom of the media, economic, social, political, educational and religious values. The people of Bangladesh could not vote in 2014, 2018 and 2024, he said, adding the countrymen will not allow such elections to happen again.

He said the fascist associates are still lurking everywhere in the country and within the administration. They must be removed and brought to justice, he added.

Golam Parwar said national unity is needed to build the country.

He called upon the field-level leaders and activists of Jamaat to work as a step towards building national unity.
