A plan has been devised to ensure uninterrupted power supply during Ramadan, although Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Adviser to the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, has indicated that some load shedding may occur during the summer season.
He made the remarks at an inter-ministerial meeting on electricity and energy supply for the upcoming Ramadan and irrigation season, held at the Bidyut Bhaban taday (February 5).
The adviser said, “Load shedding occurs due to initial fuel shortages. We held the first meeting to secure funding, and a commitment has been made regarding the amount of funds required for Ramadan and the summer season. They have promised to supply the necessary fuel in Ramadan. Currently, 900 million cubic feet of gas is being supplied for electricity production. For Ramadan, 1,200 million cubic feet will be supplied, and from April to September, 1,100 million cubic feet will be provided. This will increase electricity production. During Ramadan, the demand for electricity will be 15,000 MW, and we are fully prepared to meet this demand.”
“The electricity demand for the summer and irrigation season has been projected at 18,000 MW, with 6,000 MW of that being for cooling (AC) loads. Due to various reasons, load shedding of 700-1,400 MW may be required. However, if we can maintain the air conditioning temperature at 25 or 26 degrees Celsius, the demand will decrease by 2,000 to 3,000 MW, and load shedding will not be necessary,” he added.
