Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon on Tuesday said the government would resolve salary-related problems of teachers, including those at madrasahs, in July by paying both regular salaries and outstanding arrears.
He made the remarks at an award ceremony for the best educational institutions and outstanding Fazil and Kamil students affiliated with the Islamic Arabic University at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka.
The minister said the government was committed to ensuring that Islamic education remained free from political influence and to fulfilling the objectives behind the establishment of the Islamic Arabic University.
He said seven officials resigned from the university immediately after the national election and claimed investigations found they held different political views.
Milon said 17,000 teachers had been appointed during the interim government without any budget allocation for their salaries. After the current government assumed office in February, it found that Tk 501 crore was needed to pay them.
"However, the teachers will receive their salaries from July," he said.
The minister also said the Islamic Arabic University required Tk 29 crore for salary payments and acknowledged financial challenges across the education sector.
Referring to Ebtedayi madrasahs, Milon said institutions seeking MPO status must meet existing conditions, including land ownership requirements and teacher registration through the NTRC. He said changes made under the previous government had created administrative complications that the current government was trying to address.
