The first congregation of Eid-ul-Azha was held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Thursday morning.
The congregation began at 7:00am, drawing a large number of devotees from different parts of the capital.
Pesh Imam Hafez Maulana Mufti Md Mizanur Rahman led the prayers, while Qari Ishaq, muezzin of the mosque, served as the mukabbir.
After the prayers, a special munajat was offered seeking peace, prosperity and welfare for the nation and the Muslim Ummah. Prayers were also offered for oppressed Muslims in different parts of the world, including Palestine.
Following the tradition of previous years, a total of five Eid congregations have been arranged at the national mosque this year.
The second congregation will be held at 8:00am, the third at 9:00am, the fourth at 10:00am and the fifth and final congregation at 10:45am.
Director of the Zakat Fund Department of Islamic Foundation Dr Maulana Waliur Rahman Khan will lead the second congregation.
Mufti Md Abdullah of the Islamic Foundation will lead the third congregation, while Deputy Director of the Dini Dawat and Culture Department Maulana Mohammad Nur Uddin will lead the fourth congregation.
Trainer at the Imam Training Academy of the Islamic Foundation, Jubair Ahmad Al-Azhari, will lead the fifth congregation.
Authorities said Assistant Librarian of the Islamic Foundation Md Shahidul Islam will serve as the standby imam if any scheduled imam remains absent.
Besides, Khadem Md Shamsul Haque will perform duties as the standby mukabbir.
