The Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on Tuesday passed a Tk 9,38,000 crore national budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 which will come into effect on July 1.
The budget was passed by voice vote in the Jatiya Sangsad with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed in the chair.
Earlier on Monday, the parliament passed the Finance Bill with several amendments ahead of the budget's approval.
Under the revised Finance Bill, the tax-free income threshold for individual taxpayers was raised to Tk 400,000. The proposed provision allowing undisclosed money to be invested in the housing sector without questions was withdrawn.
The corporate tax rate for private universities and medical colleges was also reduced from 10 percent to 5 percent, while the proposal to impose VAT on retail traders was dropped.
With the passage of the Finance Bill, all tax and duty-related proposals for the new fiscal year were finalised.
