Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated the country’s Muslim community on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, praising their contribution to society and their role in promoting traditional values, reports Daily Sun.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday (27 May), Putin said Eid-ul-Azha is an ancient holiday that reconnects believers with the origins of Islam and calls for kindness and justice, charity and piety.
He noted that Muslim organisations play an active role in Russia’s social and cultural life, highlighting their efforts to strengthen family values, foster patriotism among young people, and carry out educational and charitable initiatives.
The Russian president also expressed appreciation for the support provided by Muslim communities to military personnel and their families, describing such efforts as deserving of “deep appreciation”.
Eid-ul-Azha, one of the most important festivals in Islam, is observed by Muslims worldwide through prayers, acts of charity and the sacrifice of animals, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to obey God’s command.
