Two expatriate Bangladeshis from Madarganj upazila of Jamalpur were killed in a road accident in Iraq.
The accident occurred on Sunday at around 4 am Bangladesh time on their way home from work. Relatives of the deceased confirmed the deaths on Tuesday morning. The family became grief-stricken upon hearing the news of their deaths.
The deceased expatriates are Monohar Ali, 35, the son of Khalil Mandal of Ghughumari area of Koraichra union of Madarganj upazila, and Bazlu, 40, the son of the late Alauddin Master of Kowalikandi area of Char Pakerdaha union. The deceased worked in a confectionery shop there.
According to family sources, Monohar Ali went to Iraq about four years ago on a loan. Since he did not have a valid permit, he used to work as a supply worker and send money with great difficulty. Monohar could not repay the loan burden even in four years. Meanwhile, the news of his death has cast a shadow of grief over the family.
On the other hand, the deceased Bazlu also migrated to Iraq about a year and a half ago on loan.
They had their last words with the two families on Sunday night, where they inquired about the family and expressed their desire to return home. The area is deeply mourning the untimely death of the two expatriates. The families of the deceased have appealed to the government to quickly bring back the bodies of their husbands.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madarganj Model Police Station and Madarganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sumon Chowdhury has said that they came to know about the matter with the help of social media and are in touch with the families of the deceased.
The UNO said that the family has been advised to contact the embassy to bring back the bodies and the administration will also inform the higher authorities about the matter through a letter.
