Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
“I will urge people not to take law into their own hands and police to become more active,” he told reporters after inaugurating the farmers’ cool house initiative and the farmers’ mobile app developed by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) at the Horticulture Centre in Rajalakh area of Savar this morning (February 26).
The Adviser also called on the police to be more active to improve the current law and order situation.
"Efforts are being made to increase the number of police to control the law and order situation. The number of other forces will also be increased concurrently," he said.
"There was a time when the amount of agricultural land was greater than the population. However, now agricultural land has decreased while the population has increased significantly. Despite this, farmers have kept us at a satisfactory level through good production. With mini cold storages, farmers now have the opportunity to get fair prices for their crops. When production is high and prices drop, farmers will be able to store their crops for a few days in the cold storage," he said.
At the inauguration ceremony, officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and farmers from across the country were present.
