Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retired) has identified corruption as the country's biggest challenge, warning that without tackling it, the nation's desired progress will remain unattainable. He emphasized the need to curb corruption at all levels, noting that district administrators have been instructed accordingly.
Speaking at a press briefing after attending a working session on the third day of the Deputy Commissioner Conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stressed the importance of improving law and order alongside agricultural development.
"The district commissioners have recommended increased deployment of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in border areas and the expansion of the naval police to strengthen waterway security. They have also proposed increasing manpower for the Gazipur Metropolitan Area and Industrial Police. We take these concerns seriously and will consider them carefully," he stated.
He described the current law and order situation as satisfactory but acknowledged room for improvement. "Operation Devil Hunt is being conducted nationwide to further enhance security," he added.
The session, chaired by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid, featured Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Home Ministry Md. Khoda Baksh Chowdhury as a special guest. Also present were Nasimul Gani, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs; Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture; Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam BPM; and senior officials from various departments under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Agriculture.
