Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute (BEHRI) is conducting free cataract, tear duct, and pterygium surgeries for 40 underprivileged patients on Thursday.
The surgeries began at 10 AM and will proceed throughout the day at the hospital situated on Sabrina Sobhan Road in the Bashundhara Residential Area.
BEHRI honourary Prof Dr Md Saleh, Dr Rubina Akhter, Dr. Anthony Albert, Dr. Akter Ferdousi Jahan and Dr. Majumder Golam took part in the operations at the BEHRI at Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital today.
Among the patients, 20 are men and 20 are women.
The surgery camp is a joint initiative of Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute, Vision Care Foundation, and Dwarka Das Welfare Foundation.
Mohammad Ahsan Habib, Manager (HR and Administration) of BEHRI stated, “Since the establishment of the hospital, such camps have been organized to provide eye treatment for poor and helpless patients. Free eye care camps have been held across the country. Through these camps, 3,255 patients have been selected and given free surgeries so far.”
Ahsan Habib added, “The camp was held on November 19th of last year at Dwarka Das Agarwala Mohila College, Kushtia. A total of 1,250 patients received free medical treatment at the camp. Among them, 150 were selected for eye surgeries due to cataracts, tear duct issues, and pterygium. Today, the initial group of 40 patients from that selection is undergoing surgery. The surgeries for all patients will be completed gradually.”
