Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change launched a series of mobile court drives on Wednesday targeting illegal brick kilns, banned polythene use, and air pollution. The initiative, backed by the Department of Environment, resulted in significant penalties, kiln closures, and the confiscation of banned materials.
In Gopalganj, Mymensingh, Sherpur, Satkhira, Feni, Chandpur, Madaripur, Gazipur, and Dhaka, 9 mobile courts were conducted. Through 25 cases, fines amounting to BDT 5.351 million were collected. Activities of 4 brick kilns were shut down, and strict instructions were issued to 8 others, according to a press release.
In Chandpur, Feni, Natore, Netrakona, and Gazipur, 5 mobile courts tackled banned polythene. Through 11 cases, fines totaling BDT 53,900 were collected, and 2,565 kilograms of polythene were seized. Several organizations were issued warnings, it said.
In Shahbagh, Dhaka, a drive against excessive vehicular emissions was conducted. Two cases resulted in fines of BDT 2,000, and warnings were issued to drivers of 8 vehicles.
In Banglamotor and Mirpur areas of Dhaka and Gazipur, 3 mobile courts addressed air pollution caused by construction materials. Two cases led to fines of BDT 70,000, and warnings were issued to relevant organizations.
