Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud has stated that the nation’s primary focus is on the upcoming parliamentary elections. According to the Chief Adviser, the polls are expected to take place by the end of 2025 or early 2026. "We are currently prioritizing preparations for the national parliament elections," Masud said during a meeting with election officials in Barisal on Wednesday.
Speaking at the Regional Election Officer’s office in Kashipura, he emphasized the commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections. "We are dedicated to ensuring a transparent election process that earns public trust. In the past, voter participation and election credibility were questioned, but we are determined to change that," Masud added.
Regarding the ongoing voter list update, Masud highlighted key initiatives, including removing deceased individuals, addressing fake voter concerns, and preventing foreign nationals, such as Rohingya refugees, from being added to the voter rolls. He assured that any fake entries would be identified and removed.
Since Monday, data collectors have been conducting door-to-door visits across the country, a campaign scheduled to run until February 3. Masud urged citizens to cooperate with data collectors by providing accurate information to avoid future complications.
The meeting, chaired by Regional Election Officer Anisur Rahman, was attended by additional regional officers, senior district officials, and Upazila election officers from Barisal district.
