BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has commented that India has become a safe haven for fascism.
He said, "Delhi has turned into the center of fascism."
He made this statement on Monday during a tree planting event organized by the Ziaur Rahman Foundation at Dhaka University's Mall Chattar to mark the 89th birth anniversary of the late President Ziaur Rahman.
Referring to environmental protection as a social movement, Rizvi said, "Humanity is facing a danger due to global warming. The entire world is in a state of concern. Various countries are forming international funds to assist poor nations. If we do not show initiative in this regard, we will not achieve good results. This is not just the responsibility of the state or the government. It is a social movement."
He added, "Those who left the country before August 5 have filled rivers and canals under the guise of mega projects and destroyed trees. Under authoritarian rule, nothing beneficial can happen for the people."
Rizvi continues, "Today, speaking in the open space of the university feels incredibly uplifting and joyous. However, during the era of fascism, we were too afraid to even walk through the university. If we did, we would close the car windows to avoid being seen. Under fascist rule, Sheikh Hasina made the environment this hazardous."
He further stated, "While we were engaged in student politics, we noticed that universities in other nations, even under authoritarian governments had some level of corporate independence. However, under Sheikh Hasina's leadership that principle was completely lost."
He emphasized the need for maintaining basic unity, said, " Coexistence must be maintained in the university, which has been absent for the past 15 years. We need to ensure this environment is sustained. Those who have stolen people's money should not return. Therefore, despite all democratic discussions and criticisms, there must be a minimum level of unity."
