The police have submitted a chargesheet to the court accusing 21 university students in the case of lynching Tofazzal Hossain at Dhaka University's (DU) Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall.
Shahbagh Police Station general registration branch sub-inspector Md. Jinnah on Thursday said that the report was submitted on January 1. The report was submitted by the case's investigation officer and Shahbagh Police Station inspector Md. Asaduzzaman.
Out of the 21 accused students, 6 are in jail and 15 are currently absconding. However, the chargesheet does not mention the political involvement of any of the accused.
The 6 people in jail are Jalal Mia, Ahsan Ullah alias Bipul Sheikh, Al Hossain Sajjad, Mottakin Sakin Shah, Md. Sumon Mia and Wajibul Alam. They have already given confessional statements in the court.
The 15 absconding students are Firoz Kabir, Abdus Samad, Shakib Raihan, Yasin Ali Gain, Yamuzzaman Yam, Fazle Rabbi, Shahriar Kabir Shobon, Mehedi Hasan Imran, Ratul Hasan, Sultan Mia, Nasir Uddin, Mobashsher Billah, Shishir Ahmed, Mohsin Uddin and Abdullahil Kafi.
Incidentally, Tofazzal Hossain was beaten to death on September 18 last year. Later, on September 19, 21 students of Dhaka University were named as accused in a case filed by the university authorities against unknown miscreants at Shahbagh Police Station.
