The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated an investigation against Saima Wazed (Putul), the daughter of the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, over allegations of irregularities and corruption in securing the position of Regional Director for the World Health Organization (WHO) South-East Asia Region.
On Wednesday (January 15), ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain announced the investigation during a press conference at the organization's headquarters.
He said that Saima Wazed (Putul) secured the position of Regional Director at the WHO through corrupt means. Allegations have been raised that ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina misused her power to appoint her daughter, despite her lack of qualifications for the role.
After reviewing the preliminary details of the allegations, the commission has decided to proceed with an investigation, he said.
An inquiry has been launched into money laundering accusations involving Tarique Ahmed Siddique, former security adviser to Sheikh Hasina, and his family members, he added.
